STEAM fans will get an opportunity to see a vintage locomotive on Severnside tomorrow morning (Saturday, March 11).
Castle class loco Earl of Mount Edgcumbe will haul the annual Red Dragon tour from the Tyseley Steam Centre in Birmingham to Cardiff.
The train is due through Awre at 10.10am, Lydney at 10.24am, Chepstow at 10.33am, and Severn Tunnel Junction at 10.43am.
Enthusiasts on Severnside hoping to see the train on the return leg to the Midlands will be disappointed as it will take a different route.
Network Rail has told the steam trust the engine is ’out of gauge’ for the northbound platform at Cheltenham Spa and therefore the return journey will head back via the Marches Line through Abergavenny.
Last week, Britain’s newest steam loco, Tornado, ran through the Forest on its journey from Cardiff to London Paddington.
