UNWANTED musical instruments are being sought by a Wye Valley-based performer, which will be taken out to India as part of a special performing arts festival, and they will then be donated to a music school.

Pictured outside the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth are Cardiff-based performance artist Jon Luxton, and Virginia Blakey, classical singer and leader of a group of performers with disability, who are attending the Sambhav Festival for Inclusivity in the Performing Arts in New Delhi, India.

The international event runs from November 10 - 16.

They were joined in their publicity drive by Chris Ryde, director of the Savoy theatre, Monmouth, which is sponsoring the group.

Ms Blakey told the Review: “Wales will be represented for the first time in 2015 at this performing arts festival in India that is entirely devoted to the celebration of diversity in the arts. John and I will be taking the Welsh flag and will be performing at the opening ceremony.

“The event is run by The Alpana Society, ‘Association for Learning Performing Arts and Normative Action’, which  promotes inclusivity in the performing arts, and facilitates holistic human development. It has been run by Guru Alpana Nayak for over ten years.”

Virginia and Jon are appealing for any unwanted musical instruments to take out with them for the children of Alpana’s music school, who cannot afford their own.
