GWENT Police are hunting for an armed robber who stole a ’quantity of cash’ from a Portskewett shop.

It’s hoped the CCTV footage of the man, who stormed the Spar Store in Main Road, on Sunday (March 20) at 9.50pm, will help police with their enquiries.

The offender is described as a white male, slim build, wearing light brown boots, blue jeans, a dark hooded top, with another darker hooded top underneath. The lower part of his face was covered and the hood of the inner jacket was up over his head.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "The male entered the store just prior to closing time and had with him a sports drink bottle containing a liquid and what is described as a black handgun.

"The male threatened staff in the store, before leaving with a quantity of cash from the till which he carried away in an orange drawstring carrier bag with ‘CEX’ as part of the logo for the ‘CEX Entertainment Exchange’ chain of stores.

"The extensive investigation into this incident is continuing and patrols will remain in the area. While the incident was extremely distressing for the people working at the store no one was seriously injured.

"We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who can help to identify the offender and would ask anyone with information to call 101 quoting incident number GWP20160320-0571."
