MORE than 70 Asda supporters took to Cinderford high street on Saturday in protest against news the Co-op has lodged another legal challenge.
Campaigners carried placards from the Cinderford Triangle up to the Co-op store on Dockham Road and chanted 'We want Asda'.
Cinderford resident and lead campaigner for 'We want Asda in Cinderford', Amanda Watkins said: "We had a really good turnout for the protest march. We will be staging one again this Saturday (February 15) at 11am in hope of catching more shoppers to join us. I am not sure how many times the Co-op intends to challenge the Asda application but we are sending out a clear message that we do not intend to back down and that we want residents to have a choice where they shop.
"I think more residents are standing up to the Co-op now as they have realised that every time plans for a supermarket in Cinderford is submitted they do all they can to block it."
The Review reported last week that the Midcounties Co-operative had lodged a challenge to the council based on concerns that Asda's planning proposals were "unsound and go against regulations".
