CHEPSTOW Male Voice Choir (CMVC) had a busy weekend recently, with a summer concert on Saturday June 17 followed by an appearance at Chepstow Castle’s 950 anniversary celebrations for the town the following day.

Special guests at the 29th annual summer concert were female chamber choristers Vox in Frox.

A spokesperson for CMVC said: “Our genuine concern was that due to work still being carried out to the church and its grounds, the audience had to negotiate what looked like a military training course to access the interior.

“In the event, we need not have worried, as our good and faithful followers turned up in large numbers to enjoy what everyone agreed was a top class performance from our guests and of course from CMVC.

“We were conducted by our musical director Richard Fry, who is bringing in some fresh material to offer our audiences and we were, as ever, fortunate to have our two wonderful accompanists, Rosemarie Lewis and Kirsten Watson. George Matthews introduced the music with humour and information about the pieces.

“On the Sunday, we were just one of the acts to entertain what was a large, but fluctuating audience as part of the Chepstow 950 celebrations in the castle. We sang for 20 minutes and it was an extremely hot and sultry day,

“It seemed as though we were well received, but the audience had many entertainers to occupy them in some very different genres.”

The choir is inviting potential choristers to attend a taster night from 7pm to 9pm at The Dell School in Chepstow on Thursday, July 6. Visit www.
