FOLLOWING the proposed badger cull both on TV and in the Press, it intrigues me why so little publicity is given to vaccination of cattle. After all, we have successfully vaccinated people against TB for years.
Ten years ago we were told that a vaccine was ten years away and it still is. So what is going on ?
I have heard that the EU is against vaccination and as we slavishly follow the EU regulations and wish to export cattle and meat to to the European market, it follows that this may have some bearing on it. However, discussion on this aspect is muted.
Now that the cull is about to begin we apparently have an army of 'trained marksman' at hand to undertake this. Who are these people? Does anyone know one of them?
I imagine that shooting these secretive nocturnal animals will not be easy. It reminds me of the 'trick question' about shooting at ten crows on a cable line. If you shoot one how many are left...answer 'none' as the others have flown away!
Of course these marksmen will be followed around by hordes of protesters (and TV people) who will make their job even more problematic.
I do feel for the farmers who are the innocent victims in this. However I foresee a shambles ahead.
Can we have an honest answer, and soon, please?
