STREETS, villages and towns came together over the weekend to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty the Queen.
As well as parties there was a special concert at the Five Acres Theatre at Berry Hill which told the story of her life in music and words.
A celebration at Lydney Town Hall was preceded by an open bus tour with Maureen Channon waving from the upper deck as the Queen.
She said: “The bus stopped near the Co-op where the buskers were playing and they started playing the National Anthem which was great.”
Bream Methodists held a strawberry tea on Saturday at the West Dean Centre and the following day residents of nearby Blue Rock Crescent held their own celebration with Poppy and Francis Moffatt dressed as royals.
Among the other places to have events were Chepstow where there was a riverside picnic, Ruardean, Christchurch and Bream Primary School.
Pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin in Caldicot invited local pensioners to enjoy an afternoon tea,
Lydbrook Band had a busy weekend with two performances of a celebration in music and words of Her Majesty’s life.
The first was at the Forest Theatre at Berry Hill and the band provided musical accompaniament to the celebrations on Sunday at Malvern.
The words, which explained milestones in Her Majesty’s life, were written by band chairman Trevor Moss and narrated by Richard Dodsworth.
Band secretary Robert Morgan said: “It was a wonderful event with appropriate music for the events in Her Majesty’s life.
“The Duke of Edinburgh is always there to support her so to illustrate that we played You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
