THE?year ended on a high note for the Forest Chrysanthemum Society with a very successful show.

Despite the grim summer there were more than 100 vases on display at the Masonic Centre in Lydney.

Growers were helped by the fact that the Lydney show is at the end of the calendar.

The National Chrysanthemum Society silver award for best in show went to Adrian Roberts with three excellent Wendy flowers while Arthur Wilkes got bronze for three vases of in-curved and intermediates.

Chris Woodhill received a certificate of merit for a splendid gigantic and also the best jap.

Bruce Reed won the pot tapper trophy for most points in show.

Arthur Woodfine won the best fantasy and Eddie Wilson headed the anemone section.

Alan Lewis continued his run of firsts in the Charm class with an immaculate bloom.

Three novices entered this year's competition with Gordon Thomas winning two first prizes.

The society thanked its sponsors and Sue Sparkes of Coleford who presented the trophies.
