A 70s vinyl disco night in Monmouth has raised £1,200 for Prostate Cancer UK.

More than 150 people – some in fancy dress of the era – danced the night away at the Bridges Centre to raise money for the good cause.

Organiser Debbie Hutchinson said: “We had an absolutely fantastic night. The evening was well supported and the dance floor was packed by 8pm and stayed that way all night. The feedback has been excellent with many asking when our next night is going to be.

“It was great to see so many people making an effort to dress up in 70s costumes and wigs.”

DJ Pete Stead has spent the last few years building up his vinyl collection and plays them on original decks he used when he first started going around the pubs and clubs in the area with Terry Cleaves.

The Monmouth man came back with Pete for the night.

He said: “Vinyl has made a huge comeback and there really is nothing that can recreate the sound.”

Debbie is well-known for her fundraising work and has recently left her job of 36 years at NatWest in Ross to take up a job as a community fundraiser at haven Breast Cancer in Hereford.

She said: “There is no geographical area that Haven won’t treat so I will be promoting the charity, hosting events and would absolutely love to support anyone who would like to raise money for Haven by hosting their own event, however big or small.

“Haven is such a wonderful place and welcomes everyone for many types of therapies, talks and workshops. Sadly the charity doesn’t receive any government funding so it relies on fundraising and donations.”
