BREAM RFC is the setting for a charity rugby match featuring home-grown international rugby union referee Wayne Barnes and ex-professional players this Saturday (May 14).

The day includes live music, craft stalls, a hog roast and funfair as well as the match between Bream RFC Invitational XV and the Wayne Barnes XV.

The event is organised in memory of Debbie Broderick, Wayne’s mother-in-law who died of breast cancer in 2007.

Debbie’s daughter Polly Barnes says: “This is the third annual charity match. We have playing appearances from some old friends of the Barnes XV: Kingsley Jones, Ian Gough (ex-Wales international), Shaun Perry (ex -England and Worcester), as well as Wayne himself.

“We also have Tom May (ex-England, Northampton and London Welsh captain), Boris Stankovic (ex-England under-21, Leicester Tigers, currently at Newport Gwent Dragons) playing and Gloucester’s Nick Wood will be making an appearance as referee, along with ex-international and World Cup referee Chris White.

Current England international and Gloucester flanker Matt Kvesic is coming along to give the teams tips and support and to meet fans.

“Since 2013 Wayne and I have been fundraising for the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, Breast Cancer Now, and we’ve so far raised £50,000.”

If you want to take part and you are aged over 16, there will be a chance to meet the pros, bid in an auction for signed shirts and win tickets to the England v Wales match on May 29 at Twickenham in a raffle.
