I can only assume from the tone and content of Gethyn J. Davies'(councillor for Tidenham ward) letter in a recent Review that he is bored of being a councillor, has no desire to be re-elected and perhaps even wants to move away from the area.
The breathtaking arrogance of an elected representative of the people telling them they must 'pay up and shut up' about parking charges, that the 'whingeing' is done by an 'odd few' and that 'we councillors have done a very good job to keep the charges so low'!
'Shut up'?
I thought that it was the duty of citizens in a democracy not to 'shut up', but to exercise their freedom of speech? Clearly Mr.Davies does not believe in either democracy or free speech.
'Whingeing' from an 'odd few'?
I have not heard one single voice in favour of the car-parking fees until I saw Mr Davies' letter. As far as I am aware, only him and the 21 other councillors who voted for this are in favour. If the Forest of Dean were a constituency comprised of a mere 43 people, then those against the charges might just be an 'odd few'. However, as the constituency comprises an electorate of 68,703 (as of December 2010), then I am confident that 68,681 'whingers' does not constitute on 'odd few'...
So, who agrees with Mr Davies that him and his fellow autocratic councillors 'have done a very good job' – apart from those other 21 councillors mentioned earlier?
You're in my ward, Mr Davies. Not for much longer.
– Lee Hyett, Woodcroft.
