NUMBERS from some of the most popular musicals were brought together for Caldicot Musical Theatre Society’s latest show.

A cast of more than 50 was supported by a live band and important contributions from the sound and lighting crew, costume and prop makers, choreographers, stage hands and the front of house team.

There were three shows over the weekend at the society’s headquarters, The Hub, at Castlegate Business Park.

The show opened with Bring on Tomorrow, from Fame, and the song gave the show its overall title.

There were solos by Jack Pocock, Rhys Probert, Ilana Pleas, Ella Attree, Shannon Bradbury, Angharad Elson and Oliver Skinner.

Rhys Probert and Angharad Elson performed the duet Let’s Play a Love Scene from the show and Deb Hughes led the ensemble in the title track from Fame.

Numbers from the next two shows, Whistle Down the Wind and Bugsy Malone gave younger members of the cast – many of them still in primary school – the chance to shine.

Luca Hodkinson sang the title track from Bugsy Malone and he was joined by Anwen Skinner, Ellie Boswell and Lucy Bradbury for Fat Sam’s Grand Slam.

There were solos in Whistle Down the Wind for Nick Skinner, Mark Bonner and Shannon Bradbury.

The ensemble performed one of several quick changes for the songs from Sister Act.

The soloists were Bethan Norman and Katie Bradbury.

Bethan was joined by Oliver Skinner for Who Wants to Live Forever? from We Will Rock You and there were also solos by Andy Ridgen and Mia Norman.

The final three songs were from Blood Brothers with Will Jones, Jo Postle, Oliver Skinner, Angharad Elson and Bethan Norman, and the show finished with a powerfully emotional version of Tell Me It’s Not True.

Director Amy Gibbs said: “The production was put together in seven short weeks and the cast and behind the scenes team have worked incredibly hard.”

Chair of the society, Jo Postle, added: “We pushed some of our newer members to take on solos and gave as many people as possible the chance to shine.”

Work will start after Easter on the society’s next production, The Wizard of Oz, which runs from July 13 to July 15.
