WITH all the talk at the moment about energy prices going up and Monmouthshire County Council holding meetings across the county to decide on what cuts should be made in next year's budget, it really does surprise me when I walk around and see how many street lights are burning for 24 hours a day.

I live in the Kingsmark area of The Danes in Chepstow. I know of three lights in that area that have been on now for two months if not a lot longer.

You may well ask yourself if I'm that concerned about it why haven't I done something about it? Well I did just that. I got in touch with the town council only to be told: "It's nothing to do with us."

I pointed out that if money was being wasted in the town I would think it has everything to do with them and left it at that.

However, the lights continued to burn. About two weeks ago I decided to call into the one stop shop in Chepstow and asked if the street lights were anything to do with them.

It was so I explained about the lights being on for 24 hours a day. I was told that they would see it was sorted out.

I can report that as of Thursday, October 31 the lights are still burning. I just wonder how many lights are burning across the county and how much money is being wasted.
