A BARN-storming production of Oliver! brought down the curtain on an era for Caldicot Musical Theatre Society.

The society has put on its shows in the Greyhill hall at Caldicot School for many years but this was the last one in the venue as the old school is replaced by state-of-the-art facilities.

It is hoped that when the new school opens in September 2017 that the society will be able to return there.

Most of the cast were in their teens or younger and impressed large audiences with their acting and singing abilities.

The title character was played by 10-year-old Evan Cochrane and nine-year-old Luca Hodkinson. While this was Luca’s first show since joining the society earlier this year, Evan is something of a veteran with five years under his belt.

There were also two actors playing the Artful Dodger – 11-year-old Ellie Boswell and Arwen Skinner who is nine.

Among the other principal characters were Graham Bryant as Fagin, Tess Morgan as Nancy and Andrew Gibbs as Bill Sikes.

The show was directed by Amy Gibbs and the musical director was Gareth Williams.

The society’s Christmas show takes place between December 11 and December 13 at the Caldicot Choir Hall in Mill Lane.
