CHANGES to a town centre public toilet were a step backwards for some male users.

There have been complaints that the removal of the step in front of the urinals at the toilets in Jubilee Way, Caldicot have caught some men, well, short.

Town councillor Sue Webb said she had received pleas from some men who found using the facilities a bit more of a struggle.

She told the town council: “Some men have complained because the urinals are now a bit high.

“I’ve been approached to ask if we can do something about it such as reducing the height.”

Town mayor Cllr Dave Evans said the step had been removed on “health and safety grounds” but the council agreed to see if something could be done about the problem.

The town council took over the management of the toilets from Monmouthshire County Council last year to ensure they remained open to the public.

Councillors approved an invoice for £6,387.30 plus VAT for cleaning the toilets between September last year and the end of March although they were told the actual bill that would be paid would probably be lower.
