A TOWN council has boosted a charity by donating a special £3,000 motorised chair to help lift up people who have fallen over.

Cinderford Town Council made the presentation of the Raizer Lifting Chair to the Forest and Herefordshire Crossroads Care home and community-based care support network.

The device, which is a “simple battery-operated mobile lifting chair” will help a fallen person to a standing position within a few minutes.

The new chair will support the charity to provide a service for local people who have fallen at home or in the community.

It was officially presented to the charity’s registered manager and director of regulated services, Amanda Morgan, and operations manager Karen Jackson by Cinderford Mayor Cllr Max Coborn and Cllr Graham Morgan.

In 2018, Crossroads fundraised for their first chair and have been delivering the service to their clients for a year.

A second Raizer Lifting Chair will allow the charity to expand the service and support more people in the community, said Amanda.

Crossroads’ trained team of local staff can swiftly get to people who have fallen, check for injury and support them back to their feet.

This support reduces stress, anxiety and further health complications which can be caused from being on the floor for too long.

Providing this service eases the burden on NHS and emergency services, who are no longer required to attend every call.

It also reduces hospital admissions, because being on the floor for a prolonged period of time increases the likelihood of further ill-health.

Amanda added: “We would like to thank Cinderford Town Council for their continued support and look forward to working with them and the Forest of Dean community in the future.

“Crossroads will be continuing to fundraise for the delivery of the service, as training and additional equipment costs mount up.”
