MOST people visit Thailand to relax but not local businessman Nick Johnson – he caught a river monster weighing almost 70lbs.

The self-confessed keen fisherman, from Harrow Hill, caught a red tailed catfish at the globally-recognised Gillhams fishing resort in Krabi.

He said: “After catching a large arapaima last year at Gillhams fishing reserve, I was hooked on going back to see what other river monsters were there. So I made the trip again.

“I caught this beautiful red tailed catfish weighing between 65lbs and 70lbs – it was quite a shock when its head popped out in the darkness – I was not expecting that! It was also a bit scary getting in the water in the dark with him and his friends and family, but a lovely fish it was released unharmed into the moonlight.

“I saw many fish much larger while I was there so will have to go back again sometime.”
