PLANS are being hatched to form a cycling club in Chepstow.

Anyone interested is being invited to attend an informal meeting at the George Hotel at 7pm next Wednesday.

"Initially we are planning some evening rides throughout the summer. But all ideas and suggestions will be welcome," said Melanie Phipps, of Chepstow Cycles.

•The Chepstow meeting coincides with stage four of the second annual Prutour cycle race – the UK's major event involving 108 riders representing 18 elite professional and national Olympic teams tackling a 732 mile course over seven days.

The cyclists, including Britain's Chris Boardman, will cross the Severn Bridge around 11.30 next Wednesday as they pace themselves for the run to Swansea.

Local enthusiasts can also catch up with them the following day as they travel up the A40 taking in Monmouth and Ross en route to Birmingham.

There will be a sprint at Much Marcle (12.15) and a climb at British Camp (12.30).
