ELLWOOD School is not the only school that has to play the numbers game. It is Government legislation that forced many schools to limit class sizes but this does not excuse the callous and unprofessional way in which not only the Grays but all of Ellwood pupils discovered their fate for the following year.
Why did this school greedily accept so many children in previous years? Surely long term planning would have ensured that children were dealt with on an individual basis and what was best for their continuing education decided along with parent, class teacher and headteacher?
The Grays would then have been aware of the next step for their children. Why was this letter not acknowledged? Why did the Grays receive such adverse advice to remove their children?
What is going on in this school, are they too disinterested in children to find the time to discuss such an important issue?
I bet they have had a reply now and been approached by possibly the head and chair of the governors to rapidly sort something out. It is about time that school management teams (the head and governors) took responsibility for their actions and remember that children come first in education and finance second. If everyone took the head's advice and removed their children from this school then that certainly would balance the books and the governors would have no need to reply to such letters. – Fed up parent (name and address supplied).
