I would like to reply to 'bemused' of Lydney regarding the Christmas tree outside to Co-operative.
First of all where were you last year when this same 'Christmas tree' first appeared outside the Co-op?
It would seem you have only just noticed its existence when it spent over a month in the same situation last year.
So many residents had complained regarding the lights of Lydney that last year Lydney Town Council's amenities committee spent many many thousands of pounds investing in new lights for Lydney and the reaction was very positive – however the 'Christmas tree' remains a bone of contention.
The fact of the matter is that this tree is ours and will remain ours as Lydney Town Council has purchased it.
To have a wonderful 'real tree' outside the Co-op is outside the budget Lydney Town Council has to work with.
We would welcome then any donations to have a 'real tree' (with lights that have to be provided by such as the Forestry Commission for purchase, installation, and removal).
Please feel free 'bemused' to try to donate the £400-plus that is necessary for this to happen for Christmas 2015. The tree cost in the region of £2,000 so are you happy for Lydney Town Council to throw this money 'on the tip' or put your money where your mouth is and help to raise the money necessary to have a real tree next year?
– Carol Harris, Lydney.
