A MASSIVE project to extract clay from a field off Lydney's Harbour Road is creating a nightmare for car owners.

Mud, mud and more mud is making life a misery for motorists who have to travel to and from Lydney's Industrial Estate.

"You spend Sunday morning washing your car and first thing Monday its plastered with mud," said an angry caller to the Review.

"If a farmer made a mess like it they would throw the book at him but these people seem to be able to do as they please," he said.

The clay is being used to in conjunction with a major flood defence project being carried out on the banks of the Severn. The hole left behind will eventually create a lake.

The county council say complaints had been received and the situation was being monitored.

It is understood the work is likely to continue until the end of September.
