As the primary bus service operator through Whitecroft, to this day I have have not received official notification of the closure from County Highways.
When I did learn of the closure through a local county councillor I asked Highway officials to consider by-passing the disused railway bridge to make a better approach to the village of Whitecroft. One of the answers I had (including lack of funding) was that the angled bridge served as traffic calming! It is beyond belief that county highway planners cannot see 50 years ahead instead of 50 years in the past.
As the local bus provider, I requested a restriction be put on the Brockhollands to Parkhill section for use of residents and local buses, only to be told it would encourage usage by other motorists!
The extra traffic officially diverted through Coleford (of all places) and Bream will cause untold misery to motorists and residents alike.
If lack of funds are the real reason for not demolishing the bridge then let's wait until they are available and have a decent improvement.
I sincerely believe the West of Severn is the forgotten land as far as our County Council is concerned. – J. Bevan, Lydney.
