PUPILS from Coalway Junior School are back from an amazing trip to Sardinia where they took part in a special 'Olympic Spirit' event with French schoolchildren from Brittany and their young San Vito hosts.

The highlight of the visit, organised under the Comenius exchange scheme, was an Olympics-style sports day in the San Vito stadium set amid the Sardinian mountains.

For several Coalway pupils this was their first flight. The Easyjet stewards made an announcement about their good behaviour and the hotel proprietor in Muravera also praised their conduct.

"With a little over four months to go to the launch of London 2012, this group from the Forest of Dean have already had a taste of the Olympic spirit," said a school spokesman.

"They impressed everyone with how well they can play and work with children from other cultures, and they've come home knowing more about how to be fit and healthy too!"
