A RANGE of community groups have benefited from a record-breaking, spectacular annual firework display.

Chepstow and District Round Table has run the community fireworks events every November for 30 years.

The 2019 display, which was again held at Chepstow Comprehensive School, raised £4,000 which has now been given to community groups.

The first grants went to groups that contributed to making the Bonfire Night event such a success – with Kre8tive Theatre Kids, St Mary’s Roman Catholic School, Chepstow Musical Show Choir, Musical Memory Makers, Jess Dobson and Band, Bulwark Scouts, Chepstow Park Run, School of Dance and Bluebells Nursery each receiving £150.

Chepstow School were given a donation of £400 for their continued support, as without this the whole fireworks event could not happen.

A hamper of festive treats worth £200 was also presented to Chepstow firefighters who turn up to the fireworks event every year to keep the kids entertained with their fire engine.

The goodies were delivered by Round Table chairman Steve Axon and Nathan Murray of the 41 Club, a group for former “Tablers”

Steve said: “It’s really nice to be able to give a little thank you to these guys, who make sure our families stay safe throughout the festive season by giving up time with their own families if they get that call.”

There was also a £600 donation for children’s hospice Ty Hafan, £500 for Chepstow U8s football club, £500 worth of food for Chepstow Trussell Trust Food Bank and £250 for Round Table Children’s Wish, who help granting wishes for children with life limiting conditions.

Working in association with Chepstow Bridges Centre the lads from Round Table also hand-delivered £500 worth of gift bags to pensioners struggling with loneliness in the Caldicot area.

Every Thursday afternoon the pensioners meet at a coffee morning near Caldicot town centre, and for many of them it is the only social interaction they get all week, but Round Table members showed up with gifts for all, including the volunteers who run the coffee afternoons.
