RESIDENTS of a hilly road in Chepstow banded together to clear the snow.
Armed with shovels and brooms, the people of Meadow Walk spent two and three-quarter hours clearing the snow to enable cars to get up and down the hill and for the bins to be collected on Monday.
Mulled wine and tea provided by two of the residents made the back-breaking task enjoyable.
Schools reopened on Monday after all but one of Monmouthshire's schools were completely closed on Friday.
Staff at Archbishop Rowan Williams primary school in Portskewett were in work on Friday morning.
Headteacher Mr Graham Murphy said: "The buses were unable to make it but we had about 20 pupils in."
They did not have much to be jealous about after they were given an outdoor lesson in the nearby woods which included building a snowman.
Across the area sleds were dusted off as children took advantage for some fun in the snow.
But despite the roads being regularly gritted there were some accidents with the Mitel roundabout in Caldicot being closed for a time on Friday morning and a Mercedes left for the weekend on the verge on the junction of the B4245 and Crick Road after a collision.
