LOCAL re-enactment company The Companions of the Forest brought a taste of life during the Wars of the Roses to Caldicot Castle.
There were displays of weapons, musical instruments, food and life at the end of the 15th century.
Musician Tom Hillard of Chepstow ended up in the stocks with the help of one of the group's younger members Sephy Canty of Caldicot.
Companions' spokeswoman Marilyn Sheppard said: "We are re-enacting the Wars of the Roses period but we also do the Civil War period."
The Companions of the Forest will return to Caldicot next month for the Fortress Wales event.
Fortress Wales is one of the country's biggest re-enactment events and has previously been held at Margam Country Park in Port Talbot.
It takes place on May 6 and 7 and includes re-enactors from the Roman period to the Second World War as well as historic vehicles.
