FOLLOWING on from our report on the arrival of faster broadband services to the Forest, comes news of a new computer club for Mitcheldean.

GL17 Community Hub, which runs the library, plan to help local people to use the new speedy service efficiently, and to hone their computer skills.

In addition to the six existing library computers, the club also have 12 new laptops for use by members,

Brian Robinson, director and treasurer of GL17 Community Hub commented: "The new Mitcheldean Computer Club is aimed at everyone – whatever their current knowledge.

"We aim to provide an environment where everyone can learn about computers, tablets and smart phones."

He added: "Many people may have new equipment for Christmas, but even if they do not have a computer they can come along and use ours."

He added: "The key message here is that if anyone has a computer and is having problems, or wants to know more about such things as using social media sites, then come along and meet with us."

The pilot meeting of the club attracted around 12 people, and they have decided to meet weekly. This will be at Mitcheldean Library on Monday evenings at 7pm.
