TOWN councillors in Chepstow have again called for action over road safety on the new Wye Bridge.
They say more needs to be done, in particular, to protect children crossing the bridge from Chepstow to Wyedean School.
Last November a pupil from the school was injured after a collision on the bridge, causing traffic chaos at the evening rush hour.
Town councillors have called for a reduction in the speed limit from 50mph to 30mph and a barrier to stop children falling or stepping into the road.
Councillor Jane Robbins said: "Many people have contacted me about the A48 – on the bridge children are swept along by the wind from lorries.
"There needs to be a reduction in the speed limit to 30mph or a barrier.
One of the problems with getting action has been the fact that several agencies are responsible for different parts of the road in the area including the Welsh Government and Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire councils.
Councillor Peter Farley said: "There are interconnected responsibilties with the Welsh Government, county councils and district council."
Councillor Armand Watts said the phasing of the traffic lights at the Nelson Street and Station Road junctions caused problems.
He said: "You have traffic approaching the lights but they don't 'see' the first set of lights and if they are on red you could have a problem.
"You also get cars jockeying for position at the Station Road lights coming into Chepstow and I've seen them go onto the wrong side of the road to get to the lights first."
