THROUGH your letter pages members of the Yvonne Walkerdine Music Bursary committee would like to thank everyone who attended the recent Lydney Primary School Concert, part of the Lydney Festival, and contributed so generously to the magnificent £150 retiring collection for the bursary.
Giving, as it did, an opportunity for young musicians' talents to be enjoyed by a wide variety of music lovers, this was an excellent concert which Yvonne would have enjoyed.
This summer the bursary has been delighted to receive a wonderful response to fundraising with both this generous donation and also from the initial Foresters' Family Day.
This means we are in the position to offer a bursary this year of £500, up from £400 last year.
We are looking for young musicians to apply to be at the bursary audition concert to be held at Coleford Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 12.
The committee invites young people, in the age range school years seven to 13 on September 1, who display a commitment to music and who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, curious and responsible about their music, to apply for this award. All information, including terms and conditions, is available from bursary chairman Fiona Crawley, at [email protected]">[email protected] or by phoning 01594 563079.
The support committee members continue to receive, for what is rapidly becoming an important part of the competitive music scene in the Forest, is heartening and is ensuring the work of the YWMB goes from strength to strength as we continue our undertaking to keep Yvonne's name alive by encouraging young musicians still at school to further their musical experience.
