A CONFERENCE on the future status of the Forest of Dean is being held at the Royal Forest of Dean College this weekend.

"The conference will examine proposals for a 'special status' for the Forest and tackle controversial issues like quarrying, public transport, the local economy and community," says Kenji Sherma, secretary of the Dean Environment Forum who are arranging the event.

"The two days, on Saturday and Sunday the 4th and 5th, are a chance for everyone to have their say on these vital issues, to hear the views of expert speakers and to meet and question the people who take the decisions that affect our everyday lives."

Sunday's proceedings will include a presentation and workshops run by the Forest Regeneration Partnership, an exhibition of the results of Saturday's conference, workshops and exhibition.

Tickets for the conference are free, but should be booked in advance by telephoning Dean 835917.
