THROUGH the Review I’d like to thank ‘a gentleman of Milkwall’.
He triggers me to write about bringing our EU considerations ‘home’.
I refer to a premature EU referendum whereby many local letters inform us of their intended vote and usually justify this by using repeats of national debate.
There are likely to be many pre-referendum readers, like me, clearing waste to reach facts and context.
Selective reading and opinions on hold don’t mean a lack of consideration.
Questions and reading precede informed decision and writing, leading to less wrong assumption and personal attack.
I read with interest of Monmouth councillors and may we expect opinion from all of the political colours in time.
Then last week the Review wrote of a local event and may there be more.
What else does the EU mean to us locally?
Are we more at risk from Brussels or Gloucestershire in the exchange of family data and our land?
How will years of Brexit legal and consulting fees affect our area civic budgets?
How will Wye and Dean funding be affected across all sectors?
Do rural student exchange, research and tourism easily adapt? Will ethics crumble or thrive?
Will ‘local’ healthcare contracts move from Europe to cheap as chips China? How may your business change?
One sure fact is, most English politicians could do more for our sleep and the raised salaries we pay them, in detailing scenarios for our regions, work and homes.
Research without true context, for me, jades early attempts to justify either a yes or a no and they come across as emotive alarms.
– Still loving local news, Coleford.
