The Government claims that the country's debt is so high that cuts in services must be made. Our debt was much higher after the Second World War, yet that was when the NHS and the welfare state were started.
There are many ways in which money could be recovered.
A law could be made to prevent capitalists who have made their money in this country escaping to tax havens abroad to avoid paying tax.
Another law could put a tax on currency speculation on the Stock Exchange, which, strangely enough, can make more profit for the gambler during times of crisis but results in havoc to the economy and dire results for the rest of us.
As we have signed the Non Proliferation Treaty we should ditch Trident instead of spending money on it.
A troop withdrawal from Afghanistan would save money and lives.
Of course, the present Government are on the side of the rich. Their logic is that the rich provide the money for creating business. True enough, but they ignore the other side of the equation that the workers make the profit in the first place.
