GETHYN Davies and Venk Shenoi may be reassured to know Two Rivers Housing is already thinking creatively about solutions to the current housing shortage.
Faced with a lack of available building land at affordable prices, yet needing to build low-cost, energy-efficient homes to meet demand, we’ve spent some months researching the exciting opportunities presented by building in a ‘modular’ style.
The concept is already proven and a quick internet search shows how it’s possible to achieve some fabulous, modern designs.
A lot of the construction can be carried out off-site in a controlled environment and the result is a very stylish home finished in a fraction of the time it takes to build using traditional methods and materials.
They also cost less to build than bricks and mortar, and their running costs and environmental impact are low.
So, the practical and financial arguments are compelling and we believe it’s worthy of serious consideration, but what will local people think of this?
This could be a unique approach in this area so we want to test the concept of ‘quirky living’, and we welcome the input of anyone who may have a view.
