WHY do people still clamour for the lowest of supermarket chains?

I was told recently: "Cinderford never gets anything – it deserves a good school – we couldn't have a Tesco because of John Prescott – the new road will stop the lorries going through the town ... and anyway we shop in Ross!"

Remember the nationwide unfinished houses, schools and roads began in the 1930s and not finished until the 1950s because of depression and war? This will happen again. No money, yet grandiose, stupid building schemes. Time to stop and think.

The new road (three stages): 1) To access the new "campus;" 2) From the A4136; 3) The middle.

Earth moving, years of building mayhem, wildlife exterminated, bats' habitat utterly destroyed. They will die out.

It is strange to have worked for love, as long and hard as miners ever did, to preserve railway and mining heritage, respect the tunnel bat roost, begin to create a country trail from the Severn to the Wye, and yet not understand the threats in the proposals only a couple of miles away.

Stop and think. – S. Mills, Ruardean.
