FIVE young dancers are getting a taste of professional performance this summer, as they join a production of Sleeping Beauty by English Youth Ballet (EYB) at the New Theatre in Cardiff on Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13.

Elisha Burke, a 17-year-old dancer at All Steps Dance Academy in Lydney, 16-year-old Megan Marsh who is a student at the Caroline Graham School of Dance in Chepstow and Leia Thomas, who is 15 and attends the Angel School of Dance in Chepstow will all play Aurora’s guests.

Eleven-year-old Amelia Howells, who attends All Steps, is a charm dancer and kitten and Carole Graham student Lily Thomas-Fullerton, who is 10, will play a dancer and fairy.

Director and founder of EYB, Janet Lewis MBE, was on the lookout for the hottest young dance talent to join her award-winning company for the production in Cardiff.  

Janet said: “We saw a very pleasing standard at the audition and it was lovely to see lots of enthusiasm.

“The dancers are currently having an amazing time in rehearsals. The ballet stars international principal dancers Amy Drew, Adele Robbins, Monica Tapiador, Richard Read, Brenden Bratulic, Oliver Speers and Steven Wheeler.  

“All the soloist and corps de ballet roles in the production will be performed by 100 of the finest dancers, aged between eight and 18, from South Wales.”
