AT least 300 red balloons filled the sky over Lydney at the weekend in memory of teen Tyler Davis who died 17 months ago.
The balloons were in the 18-year-old’s favourite colour and his mum Sharon said they all flew in the direction towards his family home. His family released blue and gold versions.
“The balloon release was very emotional and the fact all the balloons flew in the direction of our house made it feel even more magical,” said Sharon. “I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of the community and can’t thank them enough for their support, especially Nicola Saunders who organised the event. She is one special lady.
“The day was absolutely amazing considering the weather was rubbish. The quad bike attraction was cancelled due to the weather but we had plenty of live music, boxing and children’s activities to keep everybody entertained.
“Around 500 people attended on the day which in turn raised £4,500 for Mind and Winston’s Wish. This is set to increase as I take on a skydive in two weeks. Joshua’s Kitchen supplied great food.”
Among the many acts that performed were Sophie Cotterell, Ukehunters and The Lash.
“The Lash were very loud but they had everybody dancing,” Sharon added. “I’m sure Tyler would have loved the day.”
Tyler committed suicide after a five-year battle with depression. The money will help bereaved children and those suffering with mental health issues.
