PLANS to make a notorious accident blackspot in Coleford – which claimed another life on Friday – safer will be discussed next Wednesday (March 16).
A long-running idea to install traffic lights at Mile End crossroads, at the junction of Woodgate Road and the B4208, is high on the agenda said Chairman of the Highways committee for Coleford Town Council Clive Elsmore.
Cllr Elsmore (Ind, Coleford Central) said: “The junction has been an accident blackspot for a long time. Highways were made aware 10 years ago and I understood they were going to put in traffic lights on the junction once they had conducted a public consultation. I’m not sure how that’s coming along.
“I am meeting with Highways next Wednesday and it’ll be high on the agenda.”
Various roads surrounding Mile End Road were closed for several hours on Friday morning and reopened around 1pm.
A 76-year-old Lydney woman was pronounced dead at the scene after her Volkswagon Up collided with a 55-year-old man from Coleford travelling in a Vauxhall Zafira.
The man, who was shaken up, didn’t require medical treatment.
