A 19-YEAR-OLD motorist who died in a crash two days after Christmas has been named as Ashley Thomas.

The black Ford Fiesta he was driving was the only vehicle involved in the accident around 12.50pm on Wednesday, December 27, the Mitchel Troy Road near Monmouth.

The teenager, who was from the Usk area and worked as an apprentice at Raglan-based Land Rover specialist MDP Land Rovers, was pronounced dead at the scene and his family are being supported by specialist police officers.

A 15-year-old girl, who was the only passenger, was taken to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff with minor injuries.

There had been snow overnight in the area prior to the crash, and some roads were icy.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 264 of December 27.
