I SHOULD like to pay tribute to Pat Fleming, who sadly left us on July 16. A Yorkshirewoman from Scarborough, she was proud of her own Riding but settled in Chepstow to become devoted to its history and environment.

A former Conservative mayor of the town, she was a prolific letter-writer to the Press and always alert to the threats posed by unreasonable development.

A keen patron of the arts, and especially of the Chepstow Society, she will be missed by many of us, not the least being her husband, John and her son, Bruce.
