IN answer to OAP of Coleford, who is needlessly worried about my mental state, what really makes me depressed is people like them writing nonsense to this newspaper.
In the referendum debate, the Brexit campaign fed the British electorate, information that was totally bogus.
As indeed did people writing to the Review’s letters column, including OAP of Coleford.
Between them, they gave us a plethora of reasons why leaving the EU would be a good thing for for the UK.
Here are a few examples of some of the points they made and how inaccurate they were:
They told us that the UK paid £350 million a week to the EU – wrong.
They told us that this money would go to the NHS if we voted to leave – wrong.
They told us that new trade deals, with countries outside the EU, like Australia and the US, would be negotiated within months – wrong.
They told us that we would regain control of our borders, with a points based immigration system – wrong.
They told us that the government would invoke Article 50 immediately – wrong.
OAP need not worry about being on a desert island with me. He or she would probably swim to the wrong island.
