A PLAN for yet more houses for the Forest of Dean – this time a new estate at Whitecroft – comes under the microscope at a public exhibition to be held in the village this Thursday.

National company Harrow Estates is proposing to replace the former Vencel Resil factory with what they describe as "an attractive new residential development."

The Village Hall exhibition (from 2pm until 8pm) is designed to give local people an opportunity to discuss the proposals and to make their own views known.

Harrow Estates say the redevelopment, which would include "a public open space", is a positive reuse of a derelict brownfield site.

The factory, a former polystyrene works, has been vacant for two years.

In a press release Tim Noden, of Harrow Estates, says: "The development proposals offer an opportunity to regenerate what is an increasingly derelict site. They will bring important environmental improvements and positive benefits to Whitecroft as a whole, including the provision of much needed affordable homes."

The statement says details of the "emerging proposals" plus the initial findings from a number of studies will be available to view at the exhibition which will be attended by representatives from Harrow Estates and planning consultants Baker Associates, of Bristol.
