I would have thought that the answer to the question posed by Gerald Morgan: "Why do the English pay for prescription fees etc and the Welsh and Scottish not" is obvious.

The English, in their wisdom, voted for a right wing government who do not believe in the welfare state, whereas we over the border (thanks to devolution) have kept the tories to a minimum in the decision making process. What the English need is their own assembly, based in say, Liverpool, who could then use any funding to the benefit of  its citizens. It's called devolved power, something that the government in Westminster has long championed but, methinks, is now regretting.

Let's hope that English voters correct this mistake as soon as possible, which, if the Liberals get cold feet, should not be too long.
