MAY I congratulate the Forest councillors who have refused the licences of two dog breeders and the courage and hard work of the campaigners.

A licence should not have been granted in the past.

It is obscene and horrid in this day and age and in our so-called civilised country that any so-called puppy farm is still in existence.

For years we have tried to exterminate them – especially in remote parts of Wales and yet we still have them in our beautiful Forest of Dean.

The suffering of the bitches who just keep producing puppies is dreadful as they are cast aside after being worn out by breeding.

I have actually seen one who was rescued and was fortunate to have a loving home eventually.

Puppies are bred with deformities which, as they mature, cause great expense and heartache to owners who have purchased them as pets.

The humans who make money from the degradation of these wonderful animals must, at all costs, be prevented from doing so if the council can prevent this.

Dogs are so intelligent, hence our marvellous guide dogs, hearing dogs, dogs for the disabled.

There are far too many dogs being bred for financial gain without proper control – hence the rescue centres are overflowing.

Councillors please never let these awful business premises continue – it could affect votes when the next elections take place.

– Dog lover, Westbury.
