ENCOURAGED by the Review's 'Broadband or Bust' articles, a group of Cinderford residents has launched a local campaign.

The objectives are to raise the awareness of broadband to both business and residential users, and encourage people in the Cinderford area to seriously consider the benefits broadband technology can offer.

The campaign will include the town delivery of 6,000 leaflets to Cinderford residents and businesses.

These flyers are to encourage people within broadband radius of the exchange to register. If the Cinderford community shows sufficient interest, BT will upgrade the exchange and enable it for ADSL.

This will then mean that anyone in Cinderford will be able to receive broadband via their phone line from a variety of competing service providers.

"Broadband4Cinderford is not just about ADSL; we do recognise that there are other broadband technologies, but if Cinderford residents pull together to get the exchange enabled, it will offer a greater choice to homes and businesses in the town, which can only be a good thing," said Kevin Stacey.

"It should be noted that registering your interest costs nothing and is not a commitment to purchasing broadband services – simply a way of ensuring that the telephone exchange is upgraded, providing a better service for all," he added.

More information about the campaign is available at http://www">http://www. broadband4cinderford.co.uk or write to: PO Box 37, Cinderford, GL14 2ZB.

The printing and distribution of the leaflets has been made possible by support from Cinderford Town Council, East Dean Initiative, and BT (Wholesale).
