STUDENT John Plummer, 20, of Lydney, has been awarded not one, but two scholarships to help him with an engineering course at the Shropshire University College.

The former Monmouth school pupil is on a MEng agricultural engineering course and is being supported by the Douglas Bomford Trust and JCB through the Harper Adams University College.

John said: "For my Douglas Bomford Trust Scholarship the application process involved a CV and covering letter and an interview with two Harper Adams Development Trust trustees.

"I am very happy to have received the DBT scholarship it has helped me massively on my course. I have purchased a new printer, engineering books and CAD software."

John added: "The JCB scholarship application process involved a CV and covering letter and an assessment day at JCB's world headquarters, involving a number of different assessments; one to one interview, team work and psychometric testing and design work. I am very honoured to have received the JCB scholarship and I am very excited about starting my 12-month work placement with the company.

"The money I will receive from my scholarships will help to drastically reduce my debt whilst at university, which will be fairly sizeable as I am on a five-year course."
