A FEW months ago I wrote to request more drivers for Age Concern Forest of Dean’s popular hot meals service. Three people responded and we are very grateful to them.
Because of the expansion of the service we still need drivers, particularly for rounds in Lydney. We pay travel expenses for delivering the meals at 45p per mile, which is the highest amount allowed by HMRC without tax being levied.
It takes around two hours per day, from 11.30am, when the meals are ready until 1.30pm when they have all been delivered.
We are grateful for any day a driver can manage regularly, whether it is one, two or all five. Alternatively, he or she can join a pool of drivers who are called on just to cover illness or holidays.
It’s rewarding work as drivers are helping to maintain very elderly clients in their own homes, living independently and out of care homes.
This year we are celebrating 25 years of delivering meals across the Forest and details of our celebratory event, to which all clients and volunteers will be invited, will be publicised in this newspaper in May.
Please come and join us by telephoning Debbie or Anthea on 01594 827927.
