ELLWOOD'S concern that the ill-luck surrounding their opening two games – a draw and defeat – would continue, evaporated on Saturday with a comprehensive victory against Kingswood.

It was the perfect way to lay to rest the ghost of the opening two away games, both of which should have been won.

A club spokesman said: "We deserved to win at Bishops Cleeve and at Henbury. The danger is you get on a roll and misfortune continues. It was important to win our first home game and very pleased to do so."

With a number of players missing from the squad, Ellwood expected a tough time and early on there were some nervous moments. But the Forest team settled to their task and began to craft some chances.

After eight minutes Kingswood conceded a free-kick 25 yards out. Des Roberts slipped the ball into Jamie Addis in the box and he beat two defenders to slide the ball into the far corner.

Ellwood keeper Tim Yemm brought off a fine save before Ellwood's composure was assured with an excellent goal. The build-up involved brother Chris, Jamie and Julian with the latter providing an inch perfect pass for Mike Nelson to smash in goal number two.

In injury time Des Roberts scored Ellwood's third but within a minute Kingswood had pulled a goal back to set the scene for a lively second-half.

Free-kick expert Jamie Addis made a superb 25 yard strike to beat Kingswood's keeper and the game was effectively in the bag as the visitors were reduced to 10 men with a player dismissed for a second bookable offence. However, against the odds Kingswood scored from a penalty in injury time.
