MAY I reply to Kit Spackman and acknowledge that the point I made regarding the Poles was not as clearly put as I had wished?
I re-emphasise that Poland fought the Nazis to the very end – indeed it was Hitler's invasion of that country which caused our declaration of war to relieve it.
All the other nationalities who fought with us from September 1939 to May 1945 and who are mentioned in his letter certainly fought valiantly, many making the supreme sacrifice, as any stroll through a cemetery of war graves will confirm.
As individuals their deeds were inflicted in the endeavour of overthrowing the Nazi regime, but those of their respective governments most certainly were not.
Hitler was able to prolong the war by availing himself of amenities and facilities from countries which purported neutrality.
These are our friends in the EU to whom we must throw open our borders and benefit offices in accordance with EU rules whereas our real friends in present-day Commonwealth countries have restrictions of immigration imposed upon them.
This correspondence is debating the important question of immigration and while Cameron, at his slimiest, will not discuss this subject of EU immigrants – only stating that non-EU members will be limited – the objection is quite rightly being raised against immigrants from Eastern Europe without excluding the Poles.
My point in my earlier letter was meant to be this exclusion in view of their country's war record.
May I assure Kit Spackman that the holes in my education are as wide as he thinks!
