A COLOURFUL procession made its way to Caldicot Castle as the town’s annual carnival took place.
The parade was headed by the Carnival Queen and King in a vintage car, leading the floats and walking entries from the King George V playing fields.
The queen was Gracie Deakin, aged nine, who attends Archbishop Rowan Williams Primary School and the king was Ben Willetts, aged eight, and a pupil at Rogiet Primary School.
Deputy mayor of Caldicot, Cllr Jim Higginson, had the difficult job of choosing the winners.
The winning float was entered by local haulage company AMH Services and was a riot of neon colours and techno music and was called Blow Your Mind.
The runners-up were the Kre8tive Kids theatre group with their Peter Pan and Captain Hook themed entry.
The Trollz of Sudbrook Girls Football Club were declared the best walking entry with Caldicot Football Club runners up.
Film favourites including Shrek, Princess Fiona and Snow White were on the Caldicot Musical Theatre Society’s float.
A quick change was required at the castle for the musical theatre group – which has a Disney-themed revue later this month – before they performed on stage.
Also providing musical entertainment was the Severn Tunnel Band and other local groups.
There was a large number of stalls run by local organisations.
