THE great weekend weather was a blessing for Drybrook's Open Gardens event in aid of the village school, and it all went very well said Colin Smith, who helped things run smoothly.

"We were pretty busy both days. We don't yet have a total of how much we made but I think we did at least as well as last year."

People had come from far and wide he said – he talked with one South Wales lorry driver who had driven through the village and seen signs during the week and brought his family along for the weekend.

"We had lots of good comments on the gardens," Colin added, and as usual the proceeds would help the school.

"We tend to concentrate on spending on outdoor projects like nature areas and a garden and these need a lot of looking-after."
